Some of the women carrying the cocking pots
Some women, who are said to be supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Affuman in the Techiman North District of the Brong Ahafo Region, yesterday stopped caterers in four schools from cooking for school-children.
According to DAILY GUIDE’s sources, the women, numbering about 15 to 20, were supported by some few men to cause commotion.
They stormed four schools, including R/C Primary School, L/A Primary school, SDA Primary school, seized the rice being cooked for the children, cooking utensils and parked them onto a vehicle and sent them away.
The women are believed to be sympathizers of the NPP, according to sources.
At the L/A Primary School, they packed the items and said that during 2008 when the NDC won the elections, they were forcibly sacked and their cooking utensils taken away from them.
“They also quenched fire and firewood. Fortunately, at SDA Primary School at Nyanfuaka, one of the inhabitants heard of the attack and locked food stores before the attackers could get there.
According to reports, the women sent the food to town and distributed them to town folks. Children in the schools therefore did not eat yesterday. Some of the children were traumatized and sent home.
Teachers became helpless, as the women scattered the caterers’ items and foodstuff.
Assemblyman of Effuman Abeasey Electoral, Elijah Appiah-Kubi, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said some women approached him and expressed interest in the school feeding programme.
According to him, they complained that they were sacked in 2009 and want to do same to the current caterers.
“I advised them to exercise restraint for me to engage the current caterers. I only returned from work to hear that some women had gone to stop caterers from cooking for the children, he indicated.
Mr Appiah-Kubi, however, could not confirm whether the same women seized the cooking utensils and food.
