The Sekondi-Takoradi Rotary Club has disclosed its intention to expand the treatment room at the Kwesimintsim Hospital in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality to help improve healthcare delivery in the area.

The club is also planning to construct a borehole for the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi to ensure regular water supply to the health facility.

Charles Ocran Kofi Thompson Jnr, the new president of Sekondi-Takoradi Rotary Club, revealed this at a ‘Presidential Ball’ organised by the club during which the Immediate Past President (IPP) of the club, Anita Griffiths Buaku, handed over to the new president.

“In order to be the inspiration to our communities, this year, the Rotary Club would undertake projects which will aim at achieving our goals of providing service above ourselves as Rotarians,” he stated.

Mr. Thompson Jnr continued, “We will construct a bus stop shed at Airport Ridge, undertake tree planting as well as other regular projects”.

He added that government alone cannot shoulder all the responsibilities by providing infrastructure and other social amenities for its citizenry, hence the need for Rotary to support in this direction.

“We will continue to come out with strategies to retain and encourage new members to contribute to Rotary Foundation to support communities to develop,” he indicated.

“I humbly pledged that with the support of my board members and fellow Rotarians, I will do my best to achieve Rotary’s goal of putting smiles on the faces of underprivileged individuals and communities,” Mr. Thompson Jnr added.

Addressing the members earlier, Mrs. Griffiths Buaku mentioned that during her tenure as president of the club, more than 400 women were screened for breast cancer at an event dubbed ‘Boobrisky’ as part of the club’s community service projects.

“We also partnered Goldfields Ghana Limited, a gold mining company, to undertake health screening for three communities within Damang in the Western Region,” she disclosed.
