NDC Hawks Create Confusion In Ashanti

Chaotic scene when the NDC ‘Hawks’ entered the hall

The bravado of the ‘Hawks’ of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caused a stir on Saturday at the Twereboa Kodua Senior High School (SHS) at Kumawu during the party’s Ashanti Regional Delegates’ Congress.

Members of the party’s vigilante group, said to have been recruited from Bawku, shocked NDC stalwarts, including General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Betty Mould-Iddrisu and Captain K. Butah when they menacingly entered the hall with Joseph Yammin, who contested for the regional chairmanship position.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah was at the tail end of his speech to allow the officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) to supervise the election when members of the vigilante group entered the hall abruptly and caused fear and panic among the gathering.

Captain Butah angrily questioned the behavior of Joseph Yammin and his macho men.

Owing to the development, the personal bodyguard of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed, was forced to shield Asiedu Nketiah and Betty Mould-Iddrisu from possibly attack by the ‘Hawks.

The action of the NDC’s ‘Hawks’ compelled the party’s General Secretary to stop proceedings.

The NDC chief scribe earlier ordered the closure of the doors to the hall to allow delegates to listen to his speech after they trooped in and out of the hall.

Supporters of Joseph Yammin, a former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport and well as the Ashanti Region, claimed they were under the impression the party’s stalwarts were about to rig the elections in favour of another candidate.

“We took the action to show that Yammin is not a walkover for any mafia in the party,” they claimed.
