Inmates of the Schoon Hoven Cured Lepers Village in Ho, who for a while, have been pleading for support and adequate food supplies have been blessed by the Staff and Management of the Electricity Company of Ghana in the Volta Region.

The inmates, some of whom claimed starvation due to inadequate food supply, expressed excitement when the ECG in the region donated assorted food items and other housekeeping products worth GH¢5000 to them.

The over 80 inmates with their over 120 dependents (children and grandchildren) benefitted from items including bags of maize, rice, beans, gari, gallons of vegetable oil and palm oil and toiletries.

The staff and management of ECG raised the funds from a voluntary contribution during their thanksgiving in December, 2017 and decided to use it to support the cured lepers after hearing of their plight.

Presenting the items to the Cured Lepers Foundation, the Regional General Manager, ECG/Volta, Ing. Joseph M. Forson, reiterated the need for all and sundry not to wait till festive seasons like Christmas to show love and care to the less privileged in society but do it all the time.

Ing. Forson who pledged the Company’s continuous support to the Foundation noted that “We have no doubt that this token of goodwill and care from the ECG will not solve all your problems but it is a modest show of our love, and our way of reassuring you that despite your conditions, you have not been abandoned by society.”

The caretaker of the cured Lepers, Nelson Attipoe, in receiving the donation, was full of gratitude and called on other institutions to emulate the good example of the ECG.

“Such gestures often bring excitement to the inmates, most of whom, even though are cured, have been abandoned by families. We hope that other individuals and institutions will be spurred on by your kind gesture and in their own small ways, contribute to making life here better for the inmates,” he appealed.

The cured lepers themselves also thanked and blessed the Company.
